Our joint project „SustCoast“ from the innovation area „Our Green Planet“ was selected for competition among total 146 applications. Key facts are summarized below.
What problem do we solve?
We solve the problem of the lack of a reliable water quality data in coastal areas, especially for Adriatic and Mediterranean Sea. Unfortunately, declining water quality in coastal areas is a reality due to anthropogenic stress and climate change. This results in the degradation of aquatic ecosystems and causes huge losses across different sectors of the blue economy. With EU Green Deal, Marine Strategy Framework Directive, and Water Framework Directive there is a pressing need for Member States to fulfil these new criteria, thus making our tool a must have.
How do we do it?
We will develop the digital platform for quantitative satellite-based monitoring of the transparent and shallow coastal waters.
Why do we do it?
To create a large scale and sustainable solution for coastal water quality monitoring.
What is the project timeline?
Time to prototype is 9 weeks. The Contest Finals will take place in Prague on June 1st where each team can pitch and demonstrate their solution to the EUSPA evaluation bord and invited guests. The final winning team of each innovation area will receive an additional cash prize of 25 000 €.
