We are deeply honoured to have become part of the Global Compact Network Croatia and to have joined the local network of the United Nations Global Compact. The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest initiative actively promoting sustainable business practices for years!
The UN Global Compact’s governance framework, adopted in 2005, was developed through an international process that analysed networked governance models and included input from stakeholders such as governments, local networks, and academics.
It distributes governance functions across multiple entities to ensure broad participation in decision-making. Since then, refinements have been made, including the establishment of the UN Global Compact Government Group to formalise government involvement.
The core values of the UN Global Compact Network are embedded in a plan for achieving a better future for all. This is outlined in a 15-year roadmap to eradicate extreme poverty, combat inequality and injustice, and protect our planet. This plan’s been adopted by all 193 United Nations Member States.
At the heart of ‘Agenda 2030’ are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which define the world we strive for. To be applicable to all nations and ensuring no one is left behind.
The new Global Goals are the result of an unprecedentedly inclusive process, with governments engaging businesses, civil society, and citizens from the outset. There is a shared understanding of the direction the world must take. Achieving these ambitions will require an extraordinary effort from all sectors of society, with businesses playing a crucial role in the process.
In Croatia, only 63 companies have joined since its founding in 2007. On February 13th, SeaCras d.o.o. was welcomed into the family and is currently the youngest member!
Through innovations in marine monitoring and coastal surveillance, we continue our mission. And that’s leveraging scientific data and the latest technologies to protect marine ecosystems — and consequently, promoting sustainable business practices.
Sustainable Development Goals
By its work in public-private partnerships, as well as impact business actions, SeaCras actively supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- Goal 14: Life Below Water – Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.
- Goal 13: Climate Action – Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
- Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
- Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.
- Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation – Ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
By aligning our work with these global goals, we strive to make a meaningful impact on environmental sustainability and resilience.
Also, some of our actions in the domain of SDGs are available as Use cases in UN OceanPrediction Atlas.
Recognition of being a member of the UN Global Compact Network adds a global domain on top of the already existing EU Mission: Restore our Ocean and Waters.
We look forward to collaborating with partners who share our vision of a cleaner, safer, and more resilient marine environment.
